H!P Profile: Miki Fujimoto

Miki Fujimoto (or Mikitty by fans) was an interesting gal under H!P.  She first appeared as a finalist for the 4th Generation but didn’t pass and thought that’d be the end.  Well, she was contacted to work for them as a receptionist (how fun…) and trained for a bit before being whisked away as a solo artist!  Her solo stuff became classics and she went onto some pretty back acts like GAM and Gomattou which furthered her awesomeness!  However, for some ungodly reason Tsunku placed Miki in Morning Musume as the 4th addition from the 6th Generation.  It was all good musically and she became more well-know as a cold and edgy girl but she showed power when she was singing.  She eventually became leader of Morning Musume (well for 25 days)…she got caught in a scandal by dating a guy and declared her withdrawal…she released another solo single and shortly left with the Elder Club.  Nowadays she’s taking care of her baby and was in Dream Morning Musume…good that she’s still being fierce!

Style of Music: For as many releases she had, Miki never really solidified a certain style.  She did R&B mostly which is the best I came up with but otherwise, she was pretty much varied pop styles.  After leaving Morning Musume her lone single, “Okitegami” was an enka ballad…so it’s pretty uncertain what H!P were going to do after the incident.

Other Things To Mention

Well, she does have to notoriety of being the only girl to be whisked from a solo act to a group setting permanently (from solo to Morning Musume) and as an added bonus to become a soloist again (with Okitegami).

Overall: Miki has definitely had a pretty unusual career.  Like I said above, she was rather randomly placed in Momusu and I wonder if she really enjoyed it because most of the time she was there she always came off as pissed off or just not into what the group was doing (something that was visually seen all the time on Haromoni@).  Sad that she left due to a scandal and I do wonder what things would be like if she hadn’t had left but Miki has always been one of my favorite vocalists (under T&C Bomber).  At least she’s happy being a mother nowadays and we see her doing DMM (even though they went inactive).
